CROSSED GLANCES OVER EUROPE

The project “Crossed glances over Europe” aims to make two documentaries about European identity, one in Romania, one in Turkey. A group of French young people, helped by two journalists, will travel around those two countries in summer 2008, and will realize the films with their Romanian and Turkish young partners. Those collective and intercultural films will explore and question our differences, our similarities, our values, our points of view and relationship to Europe, our prospects. We will visit major cities (Bucarest and Iasi in Romania, Istanbul in Turkey), rural areas as well (Maramures and Moldavia in Romania, between Trabzon and Erzurum in Turkey), in order to meet people from different cultural and social environments. The films, in French and probably in Romanian and Turkish, will be broadcasted as much as possible in those different countries. In France, they will be broadcasted by a local TV channel in Marseille, but also in secondary schools, universities, institutional and cultural places. Besides, we will organize public meetings and debates over Europe about the notion of European identity.

Objectives:

-        live a concrete experience of intercultural collaboration

-        make 2 films with the help of 2 professional journalists (French) and learn basic technics of journalism

-        create links between young from different countries and encourage them to develop those links, to put forward other projects, such as european projects, to encourage active citizenship

-        enhance the feeling of being european

-        compare our visions of Europe and its borders, our differences and similarities, our wishes and fears, our individual prospects...
