PROJECT

Films:

In each country, we'll make a documentary (duration: 26 or 52 minutes, depending on our efficiency). We are now working on the synopsis of these films and all the ideas coming from our partners are welcome.

The films will question about our own identity inside our countries and inside (or next to) Europe. The group (French-Romanian-Turkish) will interview different kinds of people about their everyday life and their feelings about Europe and the building of European Union. We wish to focus on young people like us: students, workers, volunteers, living in cities and in rural areas.

The young participants are alternatively behind and in front of the camera. The team of shooting will be composed most of the time of 4 people. The others either participate to the shooting as « actors » (interviewing people and giving their own opinion) or make research for the next shooting. They also make other kinds of reports (see below).

Technically, 2 journalists specialized in television will be there to ensure the quality of the film-making.

About topics, questions to ask, people to interview, the young will work together on the film-making and will write it day after day. Once a week, we'll hold a team meeting to talk about the last days and the next steps.

Other reports:

As the shooting team has to be reduced, the other participants can work on other type of reports such as: photos, articles, radio reports if we can afford some material to record sounds.

We want to create and update a blog regularly during the trip. We've also got a partnership with a French radio with a european vocation (http://www.euradionantes.eu/index.php?page=safar)

We will send them a travel diary and some photos every week. We are looking for other partnership with local newspapers or european websites. We could also publish articles in Romanian and Turkish newspapers if our partners wish so.

We plan to make an exhibition with all this material: sounds, photos, articles. The students in arts are currently working on their own project of installation for the exhibition. Then we could use it in different places, in order to promote this project, European identity and diversity.

Partnership:

We want to invest all the participants, French, Romanian and Turkish in the preparation and the realization of the project.

For the preparation, everybody is invited to participate to:

- The writing of the synopsis, the choice of topics, research of people to interview,

- The choice of itinerary,

- The research of cheap places to stay (lodging).

For the realization:

- Everybody: shooting of the film, making of other reports, collective tasks (logistics, lodging, cooking, buying tickets...)

- Romanian and Turkish: translation

- French: for those who are available, participation to the editing of the film, the broadcasting, the making of the exhibition, and all the « post-production » of the project

After the trip- broadcasting:

The films, the articles and photos are meant to be broadcasted as widely as possible after the trip.

The films will be shown on a local TV channel, called « La Chaîne Marseille ». We will propose them for broadcast to other TV channels, local and national. We will also show them in public secondary and high schools in our area, in order to encourage a better knowledge of Europe.

We would like to make a Romanian translation of the film made in Romanian and a Turkish translation of the film made in Turkey, in order to be able to broadcast them in those countries, if our partners wish to do it.

A two-weeks' exhibition is scheduled in 2009 in Paris, at the Maison d'Europe et d'Orient (House of Europe and East), a place which is very much involved in spreading knowledge about Eastern Europe.

Follow-up actions:

We wish to organize other european projects the following years, for example bringing together our Romanian and Turkish partners in France for a Youth Exchange, with a journalistic goal, or a Transnational Youth initiative held by our partners.

This will depend on their wishes and motivation, but it would be great to welcome them after we go back to France, around another european project.

We also wish to pursue our series « Crossed Glances over Europe » in other european countries the following years.
